What I Learned From My First Kadoga Pet Sit🐾

A few weeks ago, I completed my very first Kadoga pet sit, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience to kick things off.

For two weeks, I had the pleasure of looking after Zhara while her owners were away. From day one, she settled in beautifully with Lenny. Before long, the two of them were playing together, exploring the neighbourhood, and often ending the day curled up side by side on the couch.

Like any first pet sit, though, there were a few surprises.

One thing none of us anticipated was how interested Zhara would be in our elderly cat, Sam. She wasn't aggressive, but she was very curious about her, and it quickly became clear that I wasn't comfortable leaving the two of them together while we were out of the house.

Fortunately, Zhara's home was only a few minutes away, so during workdays I simply took her back to her own house and picked her up again afterwards. It wasn't part of the original plan, but it was the best decision for everyone's comfort and safety.

That experience reminded me of something that's easy to overlook: even when dogs get along perfectly, every household has its own unique dynamics.

Looking back, one of my biggest takeaways was how valuable a short practice visit or overnight stay can be before committing to a longer pet sit. It gives everyone a chance to see how the pets interact, become familiar with a new environment, and identify any unexpected challenges before they become bigger ones.

That's one of the things I love about Kadoga. Every pet sit is an opportunity to learn. We're not just building a platform, we're building a community where members can share experiences, learn from one another, and create trusted relationships that make future pet sits even better.

Overall, my first Kadoga pet sit was a wonderful experience. The two weeks flew by, Lenny was thrilled to have a buddy around, and I came away with valuable insights that will help me support future members as our community continues to grow.

If there's one lesson I'd pass along to anyone considering hosting another member's pet, it's this: don't be afraid to schedule a practice visit first. Sometimes a couple of hours—or even one overnight stay—is all it takes to know whether it's the right fit for everyone involved.
