Terms & Conditions

1. Welcome to Kadoga

Hi there, and welcome. Kadoga is a local network where pet owners in Victoria (and hopefully soon beyond) help each other by exchanging pet sits and visits using Kadoga Points (“KP”).

By joining, you are part of a community built on trust, respect, and a shared love for animals. These Terms explain how we keep things running smoothly and are designed to protect you, other members, and Kadoga as a whole.

Please read them carefully. By becoming a member or using the platform, you agree to follow these rules.

2. What Kadoga Is (and Isn’t)

Kadoga is a connector, not a pet-sitting company. We help you:

  • Find other members

  • Agree on sits or visits

  • Track KP

All arrangements are made directly between members.

Kadoga does not:

  • Supervise sits

  • Guarantee outcomes

  • Take responsibility for your pets, property, or personal safety

You are responsible for your own arrangements and decisions.

3. Membership Basics

To join Kadoga, you must:

  • Be 18 or older and able to enter into a legal agreement.

  • Provide accurate information about yourself and your pets.

  • Keep your account details up-to-date.

  • Treat all members respectfully, without discrimination or harassment.

One membership per household. No sharing or transferring accounts outside your home.

Suitability and Safety Requirements

To help keep Kadoga safe for pets and members, all users must confirm during signup that:

  • They are at least 18 years old.

  • They are able to safely care for an animal.

  • They have never intentionally harmed a person or an animal.

Kadoga relies on these declarations when assessing whether someone is suitable to participate in the community. If Kadoga has reasonable grounds to believe that a member poses a safety risk, Kadoga may refuse membership or remove the member.

This information is processed only with your explicit consent, and self-declarations about suitability are handled under Kadoga’s legitimate interest in protecting members and animals.

These details are never shared with other members.

4. Kadoga Points (KP)

  • You earn KP by completing sits and visits or by referring new members.

  • You are granted 800 KP when you first join as a member.

  • As long as your membership remains active, earned KP do not expire.

  • KP have no cash value and cannot be transferred or sold.

If you cancel your membership or your subscription lapses:

  • Your account will be put on hold.

  • You will not be able to use your KP until you reactivate your membership.

  • Any earned KP will remain attached to your account.

If you permanently close your account, all remaining KP are deleted and cannot be recovered.

5. How Sits & Visits Work

  1. Guests (pet owners) post an opportunity.

  2. Hosts (sitters) show interest.

  3. The Guest chooses their Host.

  4. KP are set aside until the sit/visit is complete.

  5. After completion and confirmation, KP goes to the Host.

Once both sides agree to a sit, please stick to it unless there’s an emergency.

6. Your Responsibilities

If You Are the Host

You agree to:

  • Provide a safe, pet-friendly environment.

  • Follow agreed care instructions.

  • Inform the Guest immediately if something goes wrong.

If You Are the Guest

  • Be honest about your pet’s health, behaviour, and needs.

  • Keep vaccinations and insurance up to date (as applicable in your province).

  • Provide the food, equipment, and clear written instructions needed for the sit.

7. Health & Safety

  • Always disclose any history of illness, injury, or aggression in your pets.

  • Kadoga doesn’t check pets for health or temperament. This is handled directly between members.

  • You are responsible for any injury, damage, or loss caused by your pets.

8. Risk & Liability

We want every sit to go smoothly, but risks cannot be fully eliminated. By using Kadoga, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

8.1 Your Responsibility

  • You confirm that any personal or health information you provide is accurate, as it may be used to assess your ability to safely participate in pet-sitting activities.

  • You accept that you are responsible for your own safety, your property, and your pets.

  • You understand that there are inherent risks in caring for animals and entering other people’s homes, including injury, illness, death, damage, or loss.

8.2 Kadoga Is Not Responsible for Member Actions

Kadoga is not involved in supervising sits or evaluating members, pets, or homes. All arrangements are made directly between members. Kadoga is not responsible for:

  • the behaviour, actions, or omissions of members

  • the health, temperament, or behaviour of pets

  • accidents or incidents that occur during sits or visits

  • damage to property, loss of property, or injury to people or animals

8.3 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted under the laws of British Columbia:

Kadoga’s total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, the platform, or any pet-sitting arrangement facilitated through Kadoga shall not exceed the total amount you paid for your Kadoga membership in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. If you did not pay for a membership, Kadoga’s total liability shall not exceed fifty Canadian dollars (CAD 50).

8.4 No Warranties

Kadoga is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. Kadoga makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranties of fitness for a particular purpose, reliability, availability, or suitability of members, pets, or pet-sitting arrangements.

8.5 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kadoga and its owners, employees, contractors, and affiliates from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including legal fees) arising from:

  • your actions or omissions on the platform

  • your interactions with members or their pets

  • any damage or injury caused by you or your pets

  • any breach of these Terms

8.6 Mandatory Legal Limits

Nothing in this section limits rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded or limited under the laws of British Columbia.

9. Disputes

If something goes wrong, you should first try to resolve the issue directly with the other member.
Kadoga may step in to help, but we do not act as a formal arbitrator or mediator.

10. Ending Membership

We may suspend or close accounts if members:

  • Violate these Terms

  • Engage in unsafe behaviour

  • Commit fraud

  • Fail to pay membership fees

Kadoga may also refuse or terminate membership if:

  • False or misleading information is provided

  • We believe that continued participation could put pets, homes, or other members at risk

You may end your membership at any time by contacting us. If you choose to permanently close your account, all unused KP will be deleted and cannot be recovered.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, and any disputes will be handled in the courts of British Columbia, Canada.

12. Privacy & Data Protection

Kadoga handles all member data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which explains:

  • How we use it

  • Your rights under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA and applicable provincial regulations)
